Transforming Airway Care | Interventional Pulmonology at Amrita Hospital, Kochi The Department of Interventional Pulmonology at Amrita Hospital Kochi, established in 2017 under the leadership of Dr. Tinku Joseph, continues to lead the way in advanced airway and pleural care in India. With the launch of Amrita Bronchology & Interventional Pulmonology (ABIP)—India’s first exclusive Interventional Pulmonology service—the department set new benchmarks in managing complex airway disorders. What We’ve Achieved: * Successfully completed 3000+ rigid bronchoscopic therapeutic interventions * Performed numerous high-risk, life-saving airway procedures * Emerged as a leading center for advanced airway management Key Milestones & Innovations: * World’s first transbronchial lung cryobiopsy in infants for diagnosis of DPLD * India’s first airway stenting in a newborn for congenital airway stenosis * First in India to perform tracheo-bronchial ablation for the treatment of EDAC * India’s first allogenic tracheal transplant, in collaboration with thoracic and head & neck surgery teams • First in Kerala and 3rd centre in India to perform biodegradable airway stenting for treatment of post-TB bronchial stenosis * Established India’s 2nd advanced bronchoscopy simulation centre * Extensive expertise in advanced airway reconstruction procedures Commitment to Training & Excellence Beyond clinical achievements, the department remains deeply committed to education. Its Advanced Interventional Pulmonology Fellowship Program—India’s first of its kind—has trained over 50 pulmonologists from India and around the world in complex airway interventions.
